Class 7 MOT test for commercial vehicles
Most vehicles over 3 years old require annual MOT testing to ensure that they are safe for road use. While the most common Class 4 test is for personal-use cars and small vans, a Class 7 test is required for light commercial vehicles weighing between 3 tonnes and 3.5 tonnes. Be aware that the Class 4 category is also applied to motorhomes weighing up to 3.5 tonnes.
What is a Class 7 MOT check?
A Class 7 MOT is required for commercial vehicles with a gross weight between 3,001kg to 3,500kg, whereas cars and smaller vans used for commercial reasons will require a Class 4 MOT. If you’re unsure of what test your vehicle requires please refer to your vehicle handbook or V5 registration document.
The tests carried out in a Class 7 MOT are very similar to a Class 4 MOT; however, the tests are slightly more in-depth for a larger vehicle. Additional checks as part of a Class 7 test include further tests on whether the tyres are suitable to carry extra weight, and brake efficiency tests for additional safety.
Which centres offer a Class 7 MOT check?
At Kwik Fit we have a number of specially equipped centres approved by the DVSA to cater for Class 7 goods vehicles, including vans, high tops and flat-bed trucks. These centres include wider loading bays and improved access for larger vehicles.
